Ep 9 Global Voting Results Analysis
Main Post:
EDIT: It's episode 10 guys! Yikes, I can't edit the post title T_T
---
Hey everyone,
It's Saturday morning and being a nerd I'm analyzing votes from the last episode. Here are some interesting things to share...
- The difference between Sunno (#1) and Taki (#11) is 942,608 votes. That's more votes than Niki total and Daniel total!
- Jay was 11th mid result and he climbed to #3. The difference between his final numbers vs Taki final numbers is 773,249, which is almost the same as Taki's total numbers. That's one heck lot of panic votes midway!
- K's only 31,279 votes more than Jake! Though Jake did have the benefit of double votes on the last day.
- The largest difference between votes is 190,641, between Jungwon and Niki.
- The total number of votes is 13,448,337
It will be interesting to see whether the ranking shifts again next week and what the final numbers will be. I have a feeling it will be similar rank as now, especially for Daniel and Niki. Their difference is too much compared to others.

I think jays increase in votes was bc a lot of non-voting watchers made weverse accounts and voted. There was a lot of info being spread in YouTube comments, where a lot of people didn’t even know they could vote and wanted to vote for jay and save him
The Game Awards has revealed this years voting jury, the 100+ global media outlets who select the nominations and winners
Main Post: The Game Awards has revealed this years voting jury, the 100+ global media outlets who select the nominations and winners
Top Comment: I’m sure some others fit into this category too, but I love that there are all these outlets, some big, some small, and then there’s The Jeff Gerstmann Show — which is literally just Jeff, by himself. And I’m a patron and weekly listener. It just stands out is all. It’s funny. If someone didn't know who he was they would just think, "Who is this asshole and why does he get a say?"
Kingdom just announced global voting as well as k-voting. Thoughts?
Main Post:
As a STAY, I'm super happy I can support SKZ as an international fan but I was just on the blue bird app and apparently the other fandoms don't feel the same way? I understand that Kingdom is done for domestic exposure, but aren't all the groups still going to get domestic exposure as well as global exposure? I don't understand why people r opposed to this, esp because knowing Mnet, they r prob going to pull some weird shit and make global voting 30% and domestic voting 70%.
But regardless, I'm super hyped for all the performances and the creative stages we r going to be getting!
Top Comment:
I honestly wish fan voting wasn’t involved in the series at all? It ends up disregarding the actual performances of the groups and it becomes a mass voting war for everyones faves. (not for everyone that watches of course but y’know)
Also like you said, all the artists that go on the show have benefited from it, basically regardless of whether they win or not, so seeing people already beginning to argue about it just makes my multi heart cry
(SPOILER) Vote Totals for the Top 9 from the Final Global Voting
Main Post:
The final results have been updated on the I-Land results page (iland.weverse.io):
- Jungwon - 1,417,620
- Jay - 1,192,889
- Jake - 1,179,633
- Niki - 1,140,728
- Heeseung - 1,137,323
- Sunghoon - 1,088,413
- K - 946,046
- Sunoo - 935,771
- Daniel - 773,792
Top Comment: I wasn’t expecting such a significant drop in votes for Sunoo
Assuming Hanbin gets into I-Land through global voting, how will that impact Part 2 of the show?
Main Post:
So based on the amount of attention Hanbin has gotten these past few weeks, he will probably be in the top 6 grounders who continue to Part 2. Many of the I-Landers who have never been to the ground have seen Hanbin only once and probably won't even recognize him at first. Since the premise of the show is for the I-landers to decide within themselves who should debut, putting Hanbin in would be off putting since most of them have no real connection to him. To us, the viewer, we can see him and we want to see him in I-Land but I'm wondering how adding him to the lineup will impact team chemistry in Part 2. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to go to I-Land but I'm just thinking hypothetically what would happen if he went there for Part 2. Also I wonder how much of a say the judges have in choosing the grounders and how will the global voting be taken into account. I may just be looking too far into this as well.
Top Comment:
I’m still confused about the voters and the producers choices (can someone please clarify that for me!? T_T), but I thought that the producers do have a say in bringing people up from ground for the final 12.
If that’s the case, I can’t imagine they’d allow someone to get by just on voting alone. For example, Sunoo will probably get high votes, but I would assume the producers would “sign off” on Sunoo going through because he has proven himself with singing and stage presence multiple times, whereas, Hanbin has yet to impress the producers, as far as we know.
Personally, I think he looked and sounded good for Jopping. But clearly, the producers thought other participants sent in better practice videos from ground in episode 2 because he was not chosen to go up to I-Land. I think that was likely due to his vocals. There was a cute/funny clip of grounders practicing Into the I-Land where Hanbin got the lyrics wrong and all the members laughed and corrected him. However cute that moment was, it was an eye-opener for me that his singing is lacking. It was noticeable again when he sang in Fire, and I’m sure the producers have noticed as well.
I don’t know why there haven’t been more rap focused challenges to allow those who are better at rapping to shine, but maybe that’s not the direction the final group will take.
Basically, I’ve very skeptical that Hanbin will make it to top 12 at this point (unless he can show a better vocal/rap performance for the next challenge) even if he gets high viewer votes.
Do you think the rounds in I-LAND that are 100% based on global voting are a good or bad idea?
Main Post:
Warning: Very long post as I'm going to be discussing my opinion first—also I already posted this on r/kpophelp but someone recommended that I post it on here too
So my friend and I have been watching I-LAND and, as all of you hopefully know, at this point the 12 contestants who have made it to Part 2 of I-LAND have already been chosen by global voting.
Just as a quick refresher, these were the ranks of the 12 final contestants:
1st - Sunoo
2nd - Daniel
3rd - Heesung
4th - Sunghoon
5th - K
6th - Jay
7th - Jungwon
8th - Jake
9th - Niki
10th - Taki
11th - Geonu
12th - Hanbin
And these were the ranks of the 11 contestants at the end of episode 8:
1st - Heeseung
2nd - Jungwon
3rd - Sunghoon
4th - K
5th - Sunoo
7th - Jake
8th - Niki
9th - Hanbin
10th - Daniel
11th - Geonu (eliminated)
12th - Taki (saved)
Now here's the thing; no matter who your top pick is for I-LAND, I think we can all agree that there are two trainees who are arguably the most talented out of all of the contestants, K and Heesung. I mean, even the other trainees themselves have said amazing things about the two and have regarded them as the best. So why am I making a whole post about this if both K and Heesung have made it to Part 2 and have relatively high rankings? Because the problem is, the majority of viewers don't vote based on who is the best talent wise, which results in trainees who may be more suited to debut, not debuting or even getting a chance to.
I know I'm getting into very dangerous territory right here so I want to clarify that I am NOT saying that any of these trainees are "untalented" or "don't deserve to debut," all 23 trainees are talented and deserve to debut at some point in their lives, some just need to give it more time to hone in on their skills and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!
I also have to clarify that my top picks for I-LAND are Jay, K, and Taki, but I mostly root for Jay, and, as much as I love Taki and his interactions with K (and I really do hate to say this), I don't think he's ready to debut just yet. If you compare Taki's dancing and vocal skills to that of the 12 finalists', he would honestly be in last place, or at the very least in 10th or 11th. Hell, just by comparing Geonu's (who was in 11th place last episode) vocal and dancing skills to Taki's (who was in 12th place), it would be difficult to argue that Taki's skills are objectively better than Geonu's.
If we go back to episode 7, the episode that revealed the other 6 finalists who were picked by global voting, Taki was one of the 6, but how many of those people who voted for him actually did it because of his skills and not because he's cute and/or because they wanted more K and Taki moments? In all honesty, even I want more K and Taki moments (cause they are cute as hell) but when it comes to having the power to decide who should and shouldn't debut and basically deciding a big part these trainees lives, a baby face and cute moments aren't enough for me personally.
But! Here's the real kicker; the mid-ranking results—not as good as most people were expecting. Here they are:
1st - Sunoo
2nd - Heeseung
3rd - Sunghoon
4th - Taki
5th - Jake
6th - Jungwon
7th - Daniel
8th - Hanbin
9th - K
10th - Niki
11th - Jay
Now obviously Heesung has a high ranking, but K... oh my. He's two ranks away from even being eligible for the debut group. Of course, these are just the mid-ranking results and they could absolutely change by the time voting is over, but I personally think that the rankings won't change very much.
Basically what I'm trying to say is; it doesn't matter wether the trainee is obviously ready to debut skill-wise or if they do an amazing performance that leaves everyone slack-jawed by the end of it, if the test is a global voting test, no one cares. The person with the largest fanbase will always win, and if you're not popular, oh well. Better luck next time. What makes this even worse is that the fourth and final test to decide the absolute final 7 is ALSO entirely up to GV. The 12 trainees themselves were worried about the tests based on GV and Sunghoon even acknowledged that those tests are 100% based on popularity.
So look, I know that BigHit and whatever company/companies they're partnering up with wanted to make a show that wouldn't be a repeat of Produce 101, and I love that they're trying to do that and trying to give more power to the audience, but in the midst of doing that they're also hurting the contestants who skills are "debut-ready" and replacing their chance to debut with someone who's skills aren't yet "debut-ready" (I hope that word makes sense, I can't find the right word to describe it) just because one has a bigger fanbase than the other. I really do believe that it would've been a better idea to just do a half-and-half approach where the results are determined by the global votes and the judges' votes. But I'm certainly no show producer, so I could totally be wrong.
TLDR: Bad idea
So yeah, that's my opinion lmao. It's a very long post but I've also noticed a lot of people online who also feel the same way and I wanted to know how some of your opinions. Also, I know I only used Taki as an example for a not yet "debut ready" trainee, but I do 100% believe that out of all of the 12 trainees his skills aren't yet comparable to what the final 12's skills should be. But what do you think about it, is it a good or bad idea?
Top Comment:
well the audience will be the ones giving them money and buying products, so personally i think it’s good that we have a say in the final lineup bc it also gives them a chance to see who’s more popular and, coming back to money, popular members = more fans = more money. however i don’t think it should be fully 100%

This is absolutely ridiculous. I’d say this selective announcement of rankings is sort of the same as manipulating votes. That is what they’re doing indirectly, trying to get people to vote for certain participants.
My thought on current MAMA voting result.
Main Post:
MAMA Worldwide Fans' Choice Category:
1-BTS(27.37%)
2-Stray Kids(27.17)
3-GOT7(6.19)
4-TREASURE(3.58)
5-TXT(5.19)
6-NCT DREAM(5.14)
7-ENHYPEN(5.13)
8-Seventeen(4.83)
9-NCT 127(3.89)
10-TWICE(3.01)
11-ATEEZ(2.26)
12-BLACKPINK(1.62)
13-ASTRO(0.7)
14-MAMAMOO(0.69)
15-Dreamcatcher(0.47)
16-Aespa(0.30)
17-itzy(0.28)
18-IVE(0.22)
19-Le sserafim(0.14)
Total Number of Votes exceed 23 million.
My thoughts on the results is:
-BG still get strong grip on international audience. With highest GG came at 10 place with 3%, it's provide context on domination of int BG fandom in voting.
-Female fans are loyal af in voting, streaming and physical buying
-With 4th gen gg only came at 16, 17 and 18. With vote less than 0.3%. it's confusing to me why their voting strength are that weak. In contrast to Astro doubling their number
Top Comment:
Voting is about dedicated fandoms and how much you know the game. Gg stans besides BP and Twice are more a multi and casual listener. Even if they bought albums, they are still not invested enough to do multiple day voting game like this.
Geography of the fanbase also plays a big role here. Look at GOT7 and Treasure. Their core fambase is in SEA which have been doing this voting thing every comebacks, every seasons for like 10+ year. Talking about 2-3 months of preparation, know how to adapt, or when the website is gonna crash etc. They may be small things but play out a lot at the end.
It would be funny though if Psy got in top 10 by MV view only. The fight between BTS ans SKZ took so many vote % out of other groups that the 50% vote may not mean much any more.

I'm only familiar with the dancers in WANT, WAYB, and LACHICA. Gonna be dope to find more dancers. If scores are gonna be based around likes/views for other rounds, Chaeyeon's group will win 100%.
My picks are:
YGX vs WANT - YGX probably the most in sync and clean performance. WANT group was just a bit too messy for me.
PROWDMON vs WAYB - Not feeling either one but WAYB was just a little bit better.
HolyBang vs LACHICA - The hardest one to choose for me. The choreos went different ways and there were moments I loved in both.
HOOK vs CocaNButter - Again not feeling either one and the pink bob cut isn't for me but they had more moments.
EDIT: Just noticed that it seems like the groups choreographed sections for each other? If so, some of them gave some wack choreos lol.
